About Us

Arrowswift Whippets became an ANKC registered breeder in 2022
ANKC is the only official register of dogs in Australia (any other registery that "papers" come from is not an official registry and the papers mean nothing).
Binker the whippet that started Imogen Lamports whippet journey
Imogen with Binker

We may only be newly registered breeders, but our history with whippets goes back, over 35 years.

Imogen Lamport got her first whippet in 1986 and instantly fell in love with the breed.  Her first whippet Binker was a rescue puppy who blossomed to become a well-trained and sociable boy who lived for 17 years.

She then adopted three more rescue whippets over the next decade  – Zella, Marmalade and Cleo who were all valued family members during their lives.   These rescue whippets were loving but had some anxiety and other health issues that sadly shortened their lives.  Adopting is great, but one of the realities of adopting a dog from a shelter or even through a breed association is that usually dogs that have been surrendered often have either behavioural issues or health issues (which is why they have been surrendered).

In 2019 after the passing of Cleo she and husband Adam Hammet decided that they would invest in pedigree whippets because they wanted to be sure of getting dogs with calm and sociable natures and no known health issues.

We were lucky to find an breeder with a litter of beautifully natured whippets and brought Bo (Ingwe All for Love) and Arrow (Ingwe Back to You), our current girl and boy into our household.

Bo had been registered for showing and Ingwe breeder and international dog judge Lyn King asked us to please show Bo as she is a fine example of the whippet breed.  As complete newbies to the dog showing world, we decided to give it a go, with some great success in the puppy classes, with Bo taking out a Best Puppy in the Hound Group just before her first birthday.

Showing Bo has been an eye opener and really helped us learn so much more about the whippet as a breed and why careful breeding is so important, as great breeders are looking at breeding dogs that have calm and social personalities (it’s hard to get in a show ring with a dog who is  anxious or aggressive) as well being able to compare your own dogs movement and lines to other well-bred whippets.

It's a passion!

Whippets are now in our blood.  We love their gentle and intelligent natures and are passionate about breeding good-natured dogs that you will love living with.  We want you to love your whippet as much as we do, and if you don’t or just can’t keep it for any reason, would rather you return it to us than put surrender it to a shelter!

Our Mentors

We are lucky to have two great mentors to guide us as new breeders.  Firstly we have Lyn King of Ingwe Kennels who is the breeder of our bitch Bo (Ingwe All for Love) and Arrow (Ingwe Back to You) who has 10 years of whippet breeding experience (and over 40 years of dog breeding).  And then there is Peter More of Byerley Whippets, with over 35 years of whippet breeding experience and breeders of many Australian and international champions.
