We are Melbourne based registered breeders dedicated to breeding exceptionally healthy, well socialised whippets that make excellent pets for loving families who appreciate this delightful breed.
what makes our whippet puppies so special?

They are raised as part of our family.  Our whippets live in the house with us as they are much loved family members.  This gives them access to many opportunities for socialisation, which is such an important part of raising happy, well-natured puppies.

Not only do they get attention and handling from our range of family members, from children, through teenagers, young adults to older adults. They are also exposed to visitors along with the sounds of a home, the washing machine and dryer, vaccuum cleaner along with the regular sounds of famly life, plus we spend time desensitising them to the sounds of fireworks and thunderstorms, as we know that regular socialisation and exposure to a range of people and noises helps each puppy get the very best psychological start in life.

We whippet puppies are wormed every 2 weeks, fully vaccinated for their age.

Because they live inside with us their toilet training has started before you take them home.

They are raised with close human interaction so will naturally love people and fit into your family easily.

And our puppies come with a Money Back Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee against the development of life-threatening genetic defects.  Our gorgeous Mum Bo has been genetically tested and has no genetic defects and is confirmed as 100% whippet!  Their father Banjo (aka Ingwe Miracle Man) has also been genetically tested and has a clean bill of health.

We give you a full instruction manual to help you raise your puppy right.  From feeding to socialisation and training, our manual covers everything you need to know to successfully raise a Whippet that will be a pleasure to own – healthy, happy and well-adjusted.

We want you to have complete peace of mind when you invest in one of our Arrowswift Whippets

should you choose a boy or a girl?

We’re often asked if boys or girls are better?

With whippets there isn’t much of a difference as male whippets are not naturally aggressive.

Boys are on average are a little larger than girls- the standard is only a few centimeters in height and a few kilos in weight.

Boys are often more loyal and cuddly, whilst girls can sometimes be more independent.

Both make ideal house pets.  If you want more than one whippet it can be good to have one of each sex.

Unless you would like to show your whippet we ask that all whippets are spayed at an appropriate age.

Whippet Grooming and Personality

Whippets are inside dogs. They lack an undercoat so easily get cold in winter and may need to wear a coat or jumper when temperatures drop below 10C.

Because they don’t have a lot of excess hair, they only need minimal bathing (when they’ve rolled in something stinky) and don’t need brushing or clipping.  They don’t have a strong smell themselves which makes them an ideal housepet.  They will shed more hair between seasons when they are shedding either their winter or summer coats in preparation for the next season.  You can easily brush them with a rubber brush to remove excess hair (best done outside).

Because of their lack of fur they love comfort and are definitely dogs that will want to sleep on something soft and warm (and often under the covers), this is why if you don’t want to share your bed, it’s good to invest in a whippet bed that is a covered dog bed.

Do not expect your whippet to sit on hard floors, they love comfort, a cushion on the couch with a blanket on top is perfect!

Whippets love a good run – being able to run off lead is really important and if you don’t have a whippet friend to run zoom with, then balls and frisbees are great toys to take to the park to burn off that energy.

Once home they become couch potatoes and will enjoy being in the same room as you and snoozing much of the day away.

Do whippets and cats get on?

Whippets raised with cats get on well.  I have introduced older whippets to cats and they did adapt to living happily with cats.  They do have a prey drive so you’ll want to be careful about introduction.

In many ways, whippets are cat-dogs, so are often loved by cat-lovers.

how much exercise do whippets need?

Whippets love a sprint, called “zoomies” in whippet language, so they need time spent outside each day to have a run, sniff and play.   They can enjoy long walks and going jogging with you, but don’t need hours of exercise daily as they will tire more quickly if they have the opportunity to run off-lead, chase balls or frisbiees.   They do need a good daily walk but don’t have the high activity needs of the working dogs.

We walk our whippets for around an hour each morning and then they will sleep much of the day.  They then go out off-lead in the evening to have some zoomies and sniffing time which sets them up for a good nights sleep.
